The deer don't care what you think

Unread postby Buckfever » Tue Nov 04, 2014 1:56 am

I think the biggest mistake that I see my buddies make is imposing their ideas of what the deer should be doing. The deer don't care what you think and quite frankly you shouldn't either when it comes to deer hunting. Your primary focus should be on what the deer are doing and preferably what they are doing right now and get to it.

I have to go to work and I'm rushed here so forgive me if I sound like a know it all, I'm not I'm out there and still learning, but this frustrates the out of me because I see it holding guys back that otherwise have the skills.

I know a lot of guys who are great deer hunters, but in my opinion would kill a lot more mature buck if they would be more aggressive. They are too afraid of messing up that they hold back too much.

Yes we try to mentally make them behave x, y, or z. I just figure its easier on us to think we know versus letting them show us what they want. Undisturbed deer activities are few and far between for some areas and people. This site has lots of knowledge to share but finding unpressured deer is key.

Good post Buckfever, I remember a quote from somewhere that went like this. Hunt the deer where they are, not where you want them to be. Sounds simple enough but I think a lot of people end up doing to much reading about hunting and not enough scouting to find the deer they are after.

exactly!! and if ya bugger it up one night/morning, that deer doesn't pack up and move to a new apartment...hes gonna bed in his core area... (minus the rut, but even then he comes back to his security blanket) that's what is so great about being mobile, he's guessing and your guessing, but he's got the long distance detection nose advantage....
Happiness is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it, so with that happiness is a choice one can consciously make, although often challenged by what happens to us, it is a choice nonetheless.

I think being too careful is a semi rookie mistake. I say that because I am a rookie and I feel like "im too careful". I say that because I dont understand the fine line of being too close and not being close enough, to a bedding area. Heck, Dan himself just schooled me on great bedding. It will always be a learning experience and that should be half the fun in my opinion.

If my plan doesn't seem a little 'extreme', 'crazy' or 'aggressive' then it probably won't work.

Well, actually, it probably won't work no matter what the way this season has been going...
