Unread postby Zap » Tue Mar 30, 2010 5:03 am

Anyone know what the rut moon guide says for this fall?
The autumn eqinox is Sept 23.
There is a full moon sept 23.

Is the rut moon late Oct. or late Nov.?

Thanks for the response.
A couple of questions.

Is that from the guide?
Is that the beginning of the main rut activity?

I don't know which rut moon guide you're referring to Marty. As I'm sure you know, there are several. I use one by Charles Alsheimer. General predicted dates are as follows:
Scrape Phase Begins - Nov. 8th
Seek Phase Begins - 17th
Rutting Moon - 20th
Chase Phase Begins - 22nd
Breeding Phase Begins - 26th

Thanks for the info.

Anyone know what Murray's predicts?

Never found moon data to have relevance. Hunt Oct 28-Nov 16 and you will cover the best every year in upper midwest. (N. Wis and Minn)

I remember the year I started paying attention to the rutting moon data. Nothing was moving like it should have been during the traditional rutting period, mentioned above. Then come late November, after I had pretty much used up all my vacation time, all broke lose. Sure enough, the rut guide for that year predicted a late rutting moon. I've followed the rutting moon guide since.

I don't know about Alsheimer's predictions, but I was a doubter till I compared Andreas deer log movements from his trail cameras to Jeff Murrys moon guide. It was pretty damn accurate.
Zap... I would just buy a guide there only about $10.

I plan to buy one with the 2010, last time I checked Mrs. Murray was waiting for the printer to finish.
That way there is only one shipping charge.

I followed Alsheimer's book this past fall. It is really the first time I paid attention to the moon data; his predictions were actually spot on with my observations! I'm gonna go with the Murray predictions this year and compare them to Alsheimers.

I've always thought that the rut started about the same time every year, hmm. Maybe I'll have to check out one of these moon guides.

I just want to comment on this topic..
I have wondered to, how accurate these moon charts are.. I think they are somewhat accurate, but one thing I do know for sure, is this....... My buddy owns a tavern, which is a deer registration station, and year in and year out he gets the biggest bucks the first week of November... It doesn't matter what the moon charts say for the Rut, he always gets the big ones in his place that first week of November.... So, I guess I base my vacation on that fact, but I can't help but think that there has to be some sort of reality that these moon charts do work... I don't know, it will be interesting to see if the "late" prediction of the rut this year holds true...

The # of hunters in the woods also contributes to the # of bucks killed.

Good point, even though I had to squint my eyes to read what you said Zap. . . With such small font and all.
