The Plan for 4/18
So we got a little posse for the opener. Me, my good friend Tony, and Michael Shane. We all been doing our own thing the last few years, but this year; public land, the opener, and the three of us.
I've been keeping an eye on a certain piece or two for years and always feel I could go in blind, but took a ride last Saturday. Didn't see what I wanted, but would still start there. Talked with Tony today and he saw good birds doing the same loop as I did on Saturday. So like I hoped, there are still birds in there.
Michael Shane has been checking another piece north of me. He's seeing birds there too. So Tony and I got talking today, we need to get a plan together next week. Tony said he's got a Go Pro, a tactacam and another cam. So we might even film some stuff. I have always shied from filming, but never fear if someone else does.
I haven't been this excited about turkey opener in many years. We still need a solid plan, but my plan wont change much. I turn loose on a piece of ground and don't stop moving and listening. Doesn't always work, but I just can't sit and wait for things to fall in to place. That and I stink at calling. I told Tony I may sit for 20 minutes at a time, but can't see much more, so you might not want to be near me. With this covid mess, I can see us all driving separately and entering from different directions. I already like that plan
I'll present the plan later, just wanted to start the thread. I had a plan last year up north for deer hunting and it was like herding cats, maybe this will go better.

Re: The Plan for 4/18
I hear you there I am super stoked about Saturday morning. Last weekend was youth day and after seeing all the pictures of kids posing with their birds got me pumped to be hitting woods again. I can’t get my girls to go with me, they say they want to go but when I nudge them awake at 4 AM their attitude changes drastically. I invested in some new equipment this year which has me even more excited. I got new decoys, red dot on my shotgun, and a new Woodhaven box call that came in the mail today. There are three properties I can hunt, and every year on opening morning I frustrate myself on choosing which one to go to. Best of luck to you Lou and your friends.

Re: The Plan for 4/18
Found a lot of birds on 3 different public pieces that last 2 months. My plan is to go in the two most promising on Thursday and Friday morning and just make sure they are roosting where they have been. Then Friday night going to get the owl hoot out and verify roost location. Saturday morning getting up really early to make sure I beat everyone there, try to take one off the roost. If that does not work then Sunday will be set up on roosting then run and gun all day. Taking my dad out on Monday and Tuesday so it will be more of the same find turkeys and set up on them. Have a lot of options just got to get the plan to come together. Turkey hunting in Michigan is really darn good. Can’t wait, it’s all I can think about, driving my wife crazy.

I’ll be out in area ZE on the 18th toting my 12 gauge 870.9 county area. I have both private and public that holds birds. Good luck to those hunting!

Surprised you don’t chase them with the recurve!
Just yesterday I realized that season opens next Saturday.....I’m not even close to being as ready as I usually am. I guess working a new job and the whole virus thing has my internal clock off a bit. Good thing is I have from the 18th through the end of May, so lots of time to find a good one. Might even change things up and gun one down this year....we shall see.

I wanna kill one. Lol. Only have 3 days to get it done although they added the first week in June to hunt this year if you don’t tag one the first week. If it was a longer season I’d definitely use the bow

The governors new extension order said you can only hunt local for turkey. The definition to local is 50 miles or under. I measured my way point to where I’m hunting. It’s 49 miles. I guess I’m still good to go

Guess I'll be spending my stimulus check paying my fines if caught. I'm definitely traveling more than 50 miles.
Let's go Brandon!

Re: The Plan for 4/18
Stupid turkeys today didn't want to show themselves. We hit a cold front was about 30 this morning and windy, was in the low 70s the other afternoon. Thought I would catch some doing there thing. But when you are driving around looking you can miss them. They always seem to show when you are just driving and not scouting.

Ya, this weather is horrible for spotting turks. I’m not even looking til the weather breaks. Heck, usually I wait until I’m going out to hunt, then pick out a bird or group and get after em.

Same thing here! COLD last couple morning
We only spotted one small flock of hens with a few jakes today!
We have a couple inches of rain predicted here over the next few days. Hoping to get on some action soon. Had a big boss tom working for a few minutes Weds...but live action hen talk got him to focus back on the ladies rather some noise from an overgrown fence row

Is everyone getting a stimulant check? I might not qualify

Re: The Plan for 4/18
Didn't know they were planning to micromanage how far we can drive to go hunting. That will save a lot of lives.
I'll risk the "enforcement action" anyway. Also it appears when I purchased all my tags online about a month ago they've been lost in the mail. Now need to get replacement tags.
