Making Things Difficult
What are some things that you see hunters making more difficult than they really need to be?

Carrying loud heavy stands in/out. Carrying a backpack full of crap they don't use. Not hunting with a properly tuned bow. Not being willing to leave a spot or a piece of land/property they've had success on in the past if things aren't working out this year.

not making time for target practice. whether it's bow or gun, everyone can benefit from practice.

-Ignoring the wind
-Poor access
-Interpreting the sign to fit what they think is going on, rather what the deer are actually doing
I've been guilty of all these more than I would like to admit

Hunting big bucks where they don’t exist. Can’t kill what’s not there no matter how hard you try.

Re: Making Things Difficult
dragging deer out of the woods is a lot more work than necessary. a game cart helps a lot, but if you really want to make it easy on yourself just quarter the deer in the field and pack it out on your back. you (or your meat processor) is going to have to break the deer down into quarters anyway, so what's the point in lugging all that extra weight out. might as well get rid of it at the beginning of the process.

Having to have a partner to even go.
Leaving stand to early cause they don't wanna walk in the dark.
Worrying about stuff that doesn't matter.
Blowing repeatedly on calls and banging antlers.
Setting up in places where even if the buck comes through they have no shot.

Watching hunting shows. Then, over complicating everything.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Crazy how we can get so attached to a property...even if it’s buckless!

Good stuff. I was guilty of 1, 2 and 4 last year. Well, 4 the first part of the year before I realized "this ain't working." Not going to happen this year.

Foresaking basic woodsmanship skills. A lot of hunters these days didn't start out with squirrels and a .22 and it shows.
Greed, envy, and all the shortcuts they breed.
The bettors mentality. There is no get rich quick scheme. Hunting is like a long term investment. You can't take shortcuts and anyone selling you otherwise is just trying to swindle you. Invest in yourself and the gains will come.

Looking for one big thing to make them successful when it’s learning and applying a bunch of little things that bring success.

Ain’t that the truth! Guilty myself of neglecting the basics.
