A little insight to what makes this guy tick

Last night, I shot a big doe back in about 1.5 miles, and after the shot and the gut job, came the haul out. .75 miles down a drainage ditch 25-30ft high sides, but water was about 10-12" high, so dragging her was fairly easy. But the way up the drainage and to the vehicle was not. My brother carried my bow and backpack and I picked up up slung her over my shoulders and hiked her up the drainage and last .75 miles to the vehicle. I never stopped once. It got me to thinking, it's what makes me; well me. I'm hardcore, I don't know easy, I don't know lazy, and the long hauls in, the long drags out, the seeing no deer days, the sweat, the blood, the pain and the glory are all about who I am. I love it, and I wouldn't change it. I love the struggle of public. Or how I walk in and get yelled at by a guy on private for being on public but too close to his private, only to come by dragging a deer only to hear him cuss and and swear his way down the tre and into his vehicle parked 30 feet from his stand. How I do things and hunt/scout/and operate is calculated and planned. It's what works for me. I don't know really the reason for this post other than to share and what was on my mind. It's like if I had a camera on me and a reality show of my hunting, people even hunters would say that guy is nuts, he did what?! And even the occasional Holy !! From swimming rivers in my underwear, to hauling out deer on my shoulders, to the push and grind of how hard I go, it's a ride that I hope I never get off of.

I have never met you, but you sounds like a very interesting guy! Maybe some day we'll meet. You definitely are a stone cold killer! I think many guys on this forum are of a similar DNA.

I’m sure so many others here will echo this......you gotta love the pain and hard work otherwise this style of hunting is not for you. I think most of us hardcore public land hunters are wired this way. If your not your likely not very successful. When I tell some guys about the spots I hunt they question why on earth I would ever put in that much work to kill a deer......I just smile and say “if I have to explain you would never understand”.

Seriously though, I completely understand the pumped feeling you get after a successful hunt, a long drag n all the work to get there. Public land isn't for the faint of heart. Many try n many fail. The list of guys I have hunted with over the yrs is long. Most were one and done. Some never made it a full season. It's work. You gotta love the pain. Congrats on putting the smack down on a couple more !!!

Yes, you are a hardcore hunter. It all about what makes you happy. I think a lot of guys here would agree with you, even if they dont have quite your level of commitment or determination. I think the fact that you shot a doe that far back proves you dont mind the work one bit.

I hunt both public and private, and Ive noticed that the long days of hiking up and down public land mountains or through swamps all day long just leaves me wanting more, for some twisted reason. But, I dont do that every hunt either, not even close.

I think your determination after repeated sits should be learning lesson to others. If someone wants it bad enough and are willing to work hard, they will find success.

I heard a saying that said "if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life"...now we all know even if you love what you do, we have days where work is work. But I truly love every part of the struggle, and the thought process it takes to game plan. To outsmart all the opponents, deer and hunters a like. I love to talk whitetails and tactics and to me it's a not an obsession, lifestyle, or passion, it's in my DNA. My drive is self predicated, I love testing the limits of what can be done and don't deal well with can't, won't, or impossible. By any means necessary is a saying I live by. Crazy is the norm, pushing the limits is something that's always changing. I find joys in small battles won, and feel the extreme pain when an opportunity is blown, because for me I always find it's operator error. I'm always positive and full of enthusiasm, and I feel at any moment could be the moment. There's just something about hunting that fulfills me inside. It's true love at its purest. Unconditional. Everything I do in my life is pursued with this same type of feeling. I'm harder on myself than you will ever be to me. Every year, I like to look back and say I gave al I could, as often as I could, however I could. Hunting has taught me more about life, than most could imagine. It's a time to reflect; and step away. To regroup and refocus. It' provides food for my family and I. As well as bonds that can never be broken. There are moments with others I've shared in the starlight that where amazing, and moments by myself I've allowed myself to cry and let go of the things that weigh us down when we have to be strong for everyone else. I've talked to God for direction. I've been there as a shoulder for friends in need. Why do I push so hard, do such "extreme whitetail tactics" ; well like Dewey said if you have to ask, you just don't get it. I've met some wonderful people in the hunting world, and found there are people just as crazy as I am. I respect the animals I pursue. It's not just to kill to kill something, there is an unspoken respect that takes place, even in death. Sorry for rambling but it's just been on my heart lately and I know some of you get exactly what I'm saying.

When I sat down next to my kid on - calm, stars out waiting for a ride Saturday night, arm around him chatting about the ups and downs, planning for the future. . . All of it starts to come full circle.
