Tomorrow while your working............

Unread postby magicman54494 » Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:40 am

I'll be trout fishing.
We'll be checking out a few new streams in southern Wis.
We just bought a batch of #3 mepps spinners that need breaking in.
I fancy the silver spinner with a bare trebble with the red tubing on the shank. So do the trout. ;)

I am a big fan of #3 mepps, copper blade, bucktail. I like to think that they are a product of all of the bounties I collected on squirrel tails as a kid, mailing them to Mepps for $0.10 each!! That is my go-to lure!!!

I did too! Mepps would pay postage if you send 50 or more at a time. They paid about 5 cents more for the fox squirrels. My buddy likes the white tails but he always trims the hair way back. He believes the fish hit too far back on the standard length. I always out fish him. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 8-)

If we get some big ones! The stream was shocked and browns up to 23" were caught so we know there are some nice ones there. It's brushy as well so I know the fly guys weren't there. We have never seen it yet so we'll know more tomorrow.

It was a long day 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM. We traveled about 350 miles! But hey, it's scouting season. ;) We searched high and low for trout rubs and bedding areas. All we found was this dam horse.

We didn't catch a lot of fish but we got to see a bunch of new streams. The stream that we wanted to fish had a guy fishing the stretch we wanted to try so we didn't move in on him. We asked one landowner for permission and he laughed and said go ahead, there's no trout back there but you can try if you like. The first cast netted a 15" brown. It was a great day with a great friend. Our biggest was a 17 1/2" brown.

Stream fishing is a totally different ball game than big water.......Not only do you get to see more beautiful scenery, but you definately get some excersize, I equate small stream fishing to scouting for big bucks, you get to see some awesome country and you really have to look for holes and funnels trout like to hang in. ;)
