On the bench
Went in semi blind this morning on public land. Place looked good on maps, it had transition, a bench above a small bluff line, and the bench was the thermal tunnel with today's 15+mph south east winds. I went in knowing I was gonna climb on the first fresh sign I found. I passed a ladder stand someone had setup on top of the ridge on the way in, seeing that ladder stand made me feel even better about the place. That ladder stand acted as a funnel and the deer stayed below it out of its line of sight. There was a bench that ran the majority of the ridge with bluff line just beyond the bench. There wasn't any buck sign other than a faint trail along the bench. The bench allowed a buck to scent check the entire ridge (which was thick on top). I saw a few fresh scrapes near a thick area and climbed. This guy walked out onto the bench about an hour into the sit.
