Deer Anatomy

Unread postby Iabow » Mon Aug 22, 2016 3:09 am

After reading through the "30' High" thread and thinking about some of my own experiences I decided to post this video up I found on Youtube.
The guy really goes through the vitals of a real deer and even blows the lungs back up to show how big they are. I found it really interesting and it really gives you a better idea of the vitals of a deer. After watching it and you think about those 30' high 3 yd shots it makes you go hmm. I personally am moving my preferred height down a little.

Anyways it is <<< Warning - Graphic >>> but thought you guys would get something out of it like I did.

Good video. His website has some decent stuff as well, including the facing head on shot

Found it very interesting, how the stomach comes forward almost to the heart is something I've never heard of before.

Same here.....but at the same time it reminded of a time i thought I hit a deer perfect...I was 100%sure I smoked it.. to only find my arrow having gut crud on it. Let it go till morning and damn yote's shredded it so bad I could never tell what really happened. Explains that to a degree,

I've seen one just like this before and it still amazes me how much I learn from these types of things.

I wish they would show this at every hunter Ed coarse. In my opinion most people try to shoot too far forward. A deer can't make it 100 yards with two collapsed lungs. A deer can make it 100+ yards on a heart shot and one lung. Last year I killed a doe, front of one lung and the heart were center punched. She made it 250 yards at not much more than a trot. The blood trail was very easy to follow but it was still pretty long. Both bucks I killed were double lunged. Those were 100 yards combined.

Here is another really good video showing their targets with sculptured vitals It shows different angled shots and where the arrow actually hits the vitals.

Thanks for posting! After 25 years of deer hunting I learned a few things. I've shot deer thru the ribs before broadside and have had gut matter on my arrow .Explains how he said the stomach sits far foward and low.
