Wow, what a difference!

Unread postby CallMeFishmael » Tue Feb 09, 2016 10:29 am

My scouting this year has taken on a whole new level of productivity. I had two hours yesterday before the game that I could go scouting. Based on some cyber-scouting, I had picked out one spot I thought would be a guaranteed bed. Turns out I walked in and low and behold, it was! So awesome. Then on my way out, walking down the road, I noticed a small point of land surrounded by swamp jutting out from the road with a couple trails leading into it. I thought "I almost looked right past this, I bet others do too." I followed the trail in, down the point, out into the swamp, across a creek and right to a bed surrounded by 6 or 7 rubs. I feel like Babe Ruth calling my shots now! :D Before I would just walk through the woods aimlessly. Now, in a two hour scouting session, I have two solid stand locations.

Nice finds.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Yeah, I found a tree for the first one up on a point where the trail leads. It is about 60 yards from the bed. There are some pines right there which will provide for a quiet access and a great tree is within shooting distance of the trail when it comes on the point and goes two directions. I can approach from the east to west through some open woods and down the middle of the point. I set up the tree already. I am excited about that one. For the second, the trail leads to the east across a creek and splits into two trails that go down the swamp on both sides of the point. I found a nice tree southeast of the split in the trail about 15 yards off in the brush that will be perfect. I think my access will be good coming down the road and down the point (it is pretty open). I just have to cross some open mucky water quietly for about 10 yards and then I am almost to the tree. This one is also about 50 or 60 yards from the bed. I found big tracks down this trail from the past week or so. I can't wait for October 1 now...7 months and 22 days...give or take...

Nice! Those look prime. Easy access and setups too. Can't beat it.
