I am an addict...

Unread postby IkemanTx » Wed Dec 16, 2015 12:02 pm

Addiction:
1: being abnormally tolerant to and dependent on something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming (especially alcohol or narcotic drugs)

2: an abnormally strong craving

My wife told me the other day that hunting had become an addiction for me. I really kind of laughed it off at the time, but the more I think about it.. It has. There is no single other subject that occupies even half of my spare time than hunting. I think the fact that it has been 3 weeks since I have been in the woods, and won't be hunting again this season only makes it worse. I can't count the nights where I lie awake, unable to sleep for hours because I can't shut down the entry/exit/scouting scenarios in my head. Over the last few months, I have spent at least 20 hours a week researching. I have found myself staring at google earth images until 3 or 4 in the morning, printed 60 and 70 page articles on deer diet, movement, and reproductive habits. I have obsessively stalked threads and hunting journals in anticipation for ONE more piece of information I can utilize this next spring and fall. (And probably bugged the heck out of a few beasts, sorry about that). Am I the only one who goes this far? Have I gone TOO far?

Yes you are an addict.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

You need to consider the extent to which your behavior is destructive or injurious to yourself or others.

X2. As long as it's not causing problems in life, it's a good addiction, mostly...

I am guilty as well.

But it should get better later. As we develop into better hunters and understand our areas/beds the effort will taper off.

I hope someone checks in with that stage to prove it actually turns out that way.

I'm definitely addicted.

It's really slow at work right now, so today I started a spreadsheet to figure out how and when to most efficiently utilize my vacation for the 2016 season. October first openers are 291 days away in case you're wondering.

I got two new Plat books recently.I'my planning on spamming out 100+ permission letters first two weeks January, and I'll be scouting new to me public land 1-3 days/wk starting Jan 1st - April 30th.

Already budgeting for 3-4 more cams.

Planning out of state hunts.

Applied for and interviewed for a job in Iowa 6 months after buying a house in MI.

It's bad...but I wouldn't have it any other way.
