Do I roll the dice tomorrow?

Unread postby Ravenhunter » Wed Nov 11, 2015 8:50 am

Look for opinions. Should I hunt tomorrow am on an less than perfect wind? Winds going to be blowing west. Which basically blows right to the deer as they pass me ( so they should be dead by then)
Thoughts?

see my post about talking the talk.

I rolled the dice, and paid for it. Had my dream buck (140" 10 point on pa public land) coming in on a string. He hit my scent stream at about 35 yards, locked up, and just turned and walked away, to that token though I had a buck come in from up wind of me as well but he wouldn't commit to coming in any farther. I got encounters buy hunting the wrong wind, but couldn't seal the deal, and now one of the biggest bucks in the are got a noseful of my scent. I have the same scenario playing out for this Saturday if the wind stays the same.

Its up to you but I never was good at gambling....

I wud definitely go for it. Get aggressive and be a beast! If u don't u may wonder..."I wonder if I wud have had a chance at a deer had I hunted that spot with that wind". In my mind, that is how a lot of beast style hunts take place...with a 'just off' wind or almost a dead wrong wind. Just may have to pay closer attention than normal and notice the deer before they hit yer scent stream. Good luck!

Sounds like an almost perfect wind to me.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Red dots my tree to setup in. Blue is a stream. White arrows is expected deer travel. Yellow is bedding. And I killed a buck from this tree Oct 27 working a scrape 30 yards from my tree. He was bedded at the elbow of the stream.

Greens the property line I can't hunt north off. That swamp is full of trails but it's off limits.

Why can't you set up in a tree farther east?

Creeks the property line also. West of my spot is a ridge.

Sorry I'm confused. Is your north arrow pointed the wrong way?

Lol. Sorry. No it's right. East of me is a ridge and west is the property line(creek). I screwed up my description.

Might look and see if there's a tree north east of my picked spot. Might be a tree I can use. At the base of the hill though.
