New Auger
Just got the new Jiffy Pro-4 propane powered Ice Auger. No more flooding, mixing gas, lugging a gas tank around or gassy fingers for me! I will let you know how it works out when I start using it.

Re: New Auger
Someone at jiffy was definately thinking. Im gonna wait a year to get one, the only thing that scares me is the number of times ive had my bottle freeze up with my heater. Im hoping that doesnt happen with the auger

Re: New Auger
Cool....we have our very own Propane Jiffy tester here.
I'm thinking about getting one but wanted to see how other people like it. I have a older 3hp right now and just wondering how the power and drilling speed compares. Looking forward hearing what you think about it.

Re: New Auger
If I had money to spend on a new auger I would either be going with the icegator electric head with my lazer hand auger bit or the tanaka head with the nils bit(this set-up weighs less than 20 lbs).
I am interested to see how the propane set-up works out and where augers will go in the next couple years if it work well. That jiffy looks like a heavy beast though(43lbs )

Re: New Auger
Waiting for the review on this also. What size bit? 8" or 10"
This is how I carry mine......weight is not an issue. Just had to fabricate different brackets but works sweet. See below link.
Stays right on the wheeler and swings 90 degrees with a pin assembly. Drops down vertically on a "track". Can drill one handed. Also mount my GPS graph from the front of the boat right in the wheeler and can drive to pre-set waypoint locations, weed edges, rock points, mud flats, cribs etc....

Re: New Auger
Hodag! Holy Crap! I need to get in that thing!
I agree it is a heavy beast, the majority of the other gear I have is extremely light so I thought one big piece of machinery in the sled won't hurt that bad. It's probably not ideal for running and gunning, but most of the bodies of water I fish I know pretty well so I have to move less. I really liked the NILS, almost bought one, but the thought of propane got me so pumped. I generally don't buy first run products either because I want them to get the bugs worked out first, I personally know two pro-staffers from Jiffy that used the auger last year and said there are no draw-backs except weight. So if weight isn't an issue for you it's the way to go. I guess I will have to let you guys know.
I got the 10, Screw it, go big or go home!

Re: New Auger
power and drilling speed compares
Jiffy claims more power and more torque. The guys I know that tested last year said that they aren't blowing smoke......

Re: New Auger
propane auger- I love new ice fishing gear! Anxious to hear how it works out for you.
I'm still using the StrikeMaster electric with 12v battery. I have the exact same battery in my auger / fishfinder / underwater camera. Easy to switch if one goes dead. The auger also has a 12 foot cable, if needed, that attaches to the battery on your quad / snowmobile / utv for unlimited power drilling. Love not having fuel / mix.

Re: New Auger
Well, I am happy to report that I finally made it out on the ice this last weekend. Caught a ton of Whitefish in Lake Michigan, It was so cold in fact that my camera would not work, go figure . Nontheless, the auger is amazing! This weekend really put it to the test with sub zero temps. Defenitly more powerful and smooth operating than any other auger I've used. If you have any questions, let me know, til' then the PRO-4 gets a giant thumbs up from me!

Re: New Auger
Sounds like a pretty good test your auger passed.
When and where is the whitefish broil?

Re: New Auger
If any fellow BEAST's want to make a trip up or over this way I would be happy to teach/enjoy a day of catching whitefish with them! You learn it once and it's consistent every year. Just PM me. I'm going again this Sunday, I should be able to get some pics this weekend.
