Sounds like the deer is dead and I'd go with the dog like others have suggested.

Agree, he's dead. As for tallow meaning brisket, I skinned and boned a mature one yesterday and there was a solid half inch of fat where you think you hit. They haven't burned off there fat rutting hard yet.

Good luck.

I've made several calls for dogs and can't find a person that will come to southern indiana. Heading in solo now. Hoping for some luck.

It's worth it to take any dog, I never seen a dog that doesn't like to roll around on a dead carcass, except for maybe one of those little frilly foo foo dogs.

GPS shows in 1/4th mile from where he was shot. I have found one spot where it was a spot of blood a little bigger than a softball and then two more avout 10 yards apart the size of a baseball. Hope it continues like this.

x2 I shot a doe behind my house a few years ago, I gave it over night and went to look for it the next day, my black lab followed me since I wasn't hunting I let him tag along. Good choice because I looked for hours not paying attention to him and not finding any blood until I noticed him sniffing at a pretty good trot. I followed him right to it. He even started barking at her when he got close. I have never had him around deer other than when I am skinning so it really surprised me.

After u found a few good spots of blood it went back to drops. Got worse and worse and I eventually lost the trail after 4 hours. Bummed.

Sorry man. I was crossing my fingers for you. Great effort. You may come across the skull one day though. Good motivation to train a shed dog.
