New apple trees

Unread postby exojam » Sat Apr 19, 2014 4:24 pm

Well I got my 4 Gold Rush apple trees planted today. These are B.118 stock trees. I will be added a wire fence arround them to keeo the deer or any other animal off of them and hopefully things will go fine with them.

Still need tons of oaks taken down and some scub.

I spoke with a guy in the firewood business a few streets over the other to see if he would do some bartering with me, has takes down the trees and he can have them. He is supposed to get back with me next week about coming over for a look.

Worst case is I cut them down, split them and then trade the wood for ammo.

I spoke with him today and he was tied up with some more important things to take care (water in a building).

Hopefully if he needs some he can get some help with it.

How many years will you have to wait before they produce a crop?

I am thinking at least two years before I see any apples from them.

Now if they come in about two years it sure won't be tons of them.

Maybe Deerslayer will see this and chime in since he is a lot smarter than I in these matters.

Ive got a couple rapidly expanding orchards. Apple, Pear and Crab Apples. I will be adding two more Crab Apples and four more Pear trees for twenty something total in two different spots. Should be epic in a few years.

Nice trees..

But keep those fences on for quite sometime.

My dad pulled the fences off my apple trees after green up thinking the deer would not touch them any longer, but they did hit them hard.

My two cents worth :)

I may be wrong but two years seems quick. I planted some that were 2 year old at planting and two years later they still seem a ways away from being ready. Even if they would produce that fast you may want to pick the blossoms so the energy goes into growin the tree for the first several years.

Binney59,

You maybe very correct in the time frame, I would like to see an apple or two in about two years but I know it would be not much past that, if any.
