Hill country scouting help.

I plan on scouting the green shaded area this spring or when we lose the snow cover.
After watching the hill country video, I know the 1/3 down rule should be the place to start.
So would the 1000 ft elevation be about right or should I go a little lower?

The snow makes it easier to see how they travel IMO. 1,000' is where I would begin looking.

Scout it with the snow.

Agree with the guys above, hunt it with snow. Easier to find trails and beds. I'm no expert but I think that saddle on the top right, one inch down and one inch to the left would be a good spot. Plus, it seems like there are a lot of good points for bedding. How big is the area, looks to be a nice size area to scout! Good luck!

It's over 3600 acres, like you said, lots of bedding points and a couple of saddles.
I'm done hunting for this season, but I can't wait to get out and scout it for next!
Definetly going to be using the gps.

its going to vary based on the hills height... 1000 feet looks about right for a lot of the map, but some of it looks like the 800 foot elevation is the spot to be. Once your out there looking at the beds and sign it will become much more apparent.

I thought about that also.
It looks like in some area where it drops down flattens out and then drops again.
A lot of shelf like areas or double drop offs.
It will be a interesting scout.
