Mountain Bikes

Unread postby mnbowmanmark » Fri Oct 11, 2013 8:18 pm

Does anyone use a mountain bike to get around on public land where you can not have a motorized vehicle?

I've did it several years ago. It worked great as there was a good hiking path from the parking area. I'm not a fan of a mountain bike for short distances (< 1.5 miles), wet, significantly uneven, or hilly terrain. That limits the application significantly.

Why not. I used one until it was stolen. Even sanded it and painted it olive drab. Hunting on private too. Dirtbags spotted from road even heard them turn around when I was in the tree. Did not think any thing of it till I got out of tree. Some l land state "foot travel" only. Keep an eye out. And hide it well.

I use one at least 5 times a year, works great. I found a junk one on the curb painted it years agot. I lock it up all the time even if it is not that nice of a bike. Iy really helps when you need to be off Federal land an hour after closing time.

I do

I even flat blacked out the bike... all the pads are camp. I can ditch it and lock to a tree when I start the walking part.

Works great to get me back ever farther than most goes

My son rigged his bike for use in public land. He even put a rack on it for his stand and sticks. He rides over 5 miles to the public land to hunt sometimes.

That double kickstand is what my son needs to add. It's very top heavy when loaded.

Where do you put your bow?

Strap it on the back in a soft case.

I used to use one all the time back in the flatlands of fl. to get way back in on no vehicle roads on public land.

I'd just buy the cheap walmart barnd and order good seats and handlebars. Make good game carriers too ..hard part is sanding the bikie up after tying game down on it. Just about couldn't life it back up with that big sow.
