Dejavu Buck
Friday I decided to trek back out to the area where I killed my buck the week before since there was so much doe activity and the rut is really cranking there. I really wanted to hunt a different tree but the one I was in was so 'user-friendly' that I talked myself into climbing back into it. I dropped my Dad off at a tree that I killed a buck out of last year that was on the way. While continuing towards my tree after dropping him off, the smell of a rutting buck smacked me right in the face. That got my hopes high as we were each sitting on a major funnel on either side of where that buck apparently had been, or was headed.
The morning started off slow. Had a few hogs come by, I just filmed them with my phone, I didn't feel like dealing with a pig that deep on that hot of a day. I tried to roust something up by giving a few tending grunts. Little did I know a doe had made her way to about 30 yards in front of me and the second I hit the call she darted straight away from me with her tail tucked between her legs. 'They must be running pretty good', I thought.
Late morning I caught myself dillydallying on my phone taking random pictures of things like sunlit spiderwebs:
After a few minutes I thought 'boy I really need to take a look around'. I noticed plenty of birds darting around making movement everywhere as usual. A flicker of brown/white caught my eye about 80 yards in the scrub brush, there were birds right where I saw the movement but I thought it really looked like a deer tail. Straining my eyes I caught slight glimpses of brown and finally saw a leg. I got the gun ready on the first opening it was going to pop out in. He steps out and bam I see good horns. Now he is moving through the lane at about 70 yards. 'BAAAHHHH'. He stops perfect broadside. Finally get the gun settled where I want it, BOOM. He takes off at mach 10 speeds with his head down. He is blurring through openings in the thicket and then goes behind a patch of brush and never exits. The SST did it's duty and he was down and out in a matter of seconds just like the buck last week.
Shot him at 10am
Then the real work began...

Re: Dejavu Buck
Good job on the nice buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
