Gotta love Marquette- a big city in the middle of the northern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Outdoor Life recently ranked it in the top twenty cities to live in all of the United States for quality of life, hunting, fishing, schools and higher education, art, real estate, etc.

Anyhow, the 2010 Emergency Medical Services educational conference in Marquette is Sep. 30th - October 3rd. Two of the classes I am dying to take, but won't be able to attend (our bow season opens October 1st) are Wilderness Rescue (8 hours long) and Wilderness Evacuation (just over 4 hours). RATS! Has anyone ever attended this type of training? If so I'm jealous. The folks attending this conference have quite a time, all around. If anyone is interested in more information, let me know! A couple of my medics are instructors at the conference- not the wilderness topics though.

Big Woods bucks, bear, trout/salmon/steelhead/walleye/bass/muskie etc. Reasonable real estate and housing, great schools and medical care... what's not to like?

Excellent, mossyoak- we can definitely use the input from a wilderness first responder and instructor such as yourself! We have many forum members with little to no medical training, especially regarding wilderness medicine and rescue.

I took some outdoor rescue classes thru work... But they sucked. It would be fun to attend a good one. But not during hun ting season.

Marquette is a cool area, mostly drive through but spent some time in nearby Autrain and elsewhere.

I dont know much about emergency response, but I can do the baby heimlich and cauterize, oh and make a dog puke if it eats poison.

Marquette would have to rank high on my list of other places I would like to live. Something "outdoors" to enjoy every day/season of the year. Those of you who live there are lucky! (or just smarter than me!)

Still here now.....work schedule just accelerated. Six days a week now, I may have the last bowhunting week of November to hunt this year back in WI.

I have been heading back on Fridays to Rhinelander with the wife and kids meeting me there. Hunt Saturday evenings with my son and fish Sundays when they leave and travel back to Greenville.

Yes, the hunting looks good here but working 10-12 hrs a day six days a week just frustrates a guy driving by all the "good" land and not being able to hunt or walk it.

Seems every year is like this in the fall. Sure would like to pull the winning lotto numbers and just retire early.

Hodag, that has to be tough to take, being right in that area for work and not being able to wet a line or nock and arrow!

A few of my medics just got back from a conference up there, I should've figured out a way to go!
