I have never used topo maps until I found this site. I need all the help I can get and was wondering if any of the experts could look at this map and give me some advice as to where I should scout first? Is there any good info to be gained from this map?

Re: Need topo help
There is not a lot of info on that map... Green is timber, following the edge of timber is a good start. I would also walk the elevation lines, but based on the drawing it don't appear to have much elevation change.

Ok, it's very flat and very swampy. No upland woods at all. Did know if much could be figured out with this map but thought it was worth a shot. Thanks for your help.

Re: Need topo help
When it comes to swamps and very little elevation change, aerial photos are typically more helpful for scouting purposes than topo maps are.

Re: Need topo help
I marked a few of the transition lines to scout in yellow. The areas to scout are where high ground butts up against the swamp or marsh. Points and islands are of particular value. Patches of brush or trees that are visible out in the swamp, but may not be showing on the aerial photo, may also be productive. There are many more areas in the photo to scout than what I've marked, a lot of potential.

Re: Need topo help
At least you get to wait for snow and snow shoes.
Down here in florida if it is a dry year than one could walk a marsh, but like this year there is anywhere from a foot to 6 ft of water. That means means moccasins and gators will be moving around much easier.
Nasty suckers.
