Pulled some cards from the camera today set up on scrapes and got some really nice bucks including a dandy 8 pointer. But I was wondering when the big bucks stop hitting the scrapes and go into "finding the does" mode? I realized the past day that all of a sudden there were no buck pics for today (Oct. 30th)

Anytime over the next week would be my guess.

Once the first does start letting bucks breed them I believe scrapes are abandoned until the tail end of the rut approx 10 days

Muddy....I was thinking about the same. Just wanted input.
The biggest bucks seem to be hitting scrapes the past few days. Interesting to note: I do a lot of scouting over the summer and into the fall and out of the 7 bucks I only recognize one. Showing they are movving out to new areas. Either that or I completely missed them.

Re: When do bucks stop hitting scrapes?
I'm interested to see the opinions on this. It's been a weird pre-rut in Ohio. We had a cold front move through around mid-month and that got the bucks going on scrapes as I found a couple scrape lines on 10/21. That week we had a couple days in the 70's and one in the 80's. When I returned on 10/26, I scouted and all the previously fresh scrapes were covered with leaves. I think the heat killed off any pre-rut activity that got going. Last weekend, it rained the whole weekend and this week Sandy is moving through. I'm thinking that when this weather breaks on Thursday the switch will be flipped! I'm expecting to be able to hunt scrape lines through this weekend and then after that, it's time for cruising tactics. Again, very interested to see the takes of some of the superior slayers on the forum.

I see the height of mature bucks on scrapes (at least cam evidence) in my area (wNY) around Nov. 5-6.
I thought that was rather late for peak activity, but seems to be about the same for the past three years when I started paying attention to it.
