Colors on a topo

Unread postby kenn1320 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 12:05 pm

Normally a topo is white with green indicating tree's. Im looking on mytopo.com and lots of it has purple areas and brown areas. I dont see a ledger, anybody know what the various colors mean? Very hard to see the topo lines due to this.

Also I think I have a handle on spotting the bumps to locate buck bedding, but what do doe beds look like on a topo? Are they larger flats on a point typically? Trying to determine locations for the rut.

I use military scale maps and never seen purple ever, or brown areas. A map without reference to its odd colors would be junk to me. An official map is supposed to show what that means.

I have seen topos with brown and purple on them. The ones I seen, brown indicated strip mines, and the purple indicated swamps.
