Taking down your setup?
When you guys are taking down your stands, what steps do you take?
Do you lower your bow to the ground with pull rope then climb down unhook it.
Then climb back up with rope in hand so when you unhook stand you lower it to the ground?

Re: Taking down your setup?
I use a long enough rope to lower both on same rope. I have clips on both ends.

Re: Taking down your setup?
BigHunt/ thats what I do but do you disconnect your rope and drop to the ground ... or do you even have it connected to your stand?
Swampthing/ so for instance if I were hunting 35 feet I would need 70 foot of rope? Not sure I understand your method. Would you explain for me? Thanks

Pack up.
Lower bow, drop line.
Daypack on back climb down and put bow out of the way, pack up bowline.
Climb up and stand goes on my back.
Work down and remove sticks.
If I am not planning on coming back I drop sticks, if I want to be quiet I do not drop sticks.
I carry my straps in a pouch so I usually drop them and pick em up all at once.

I think BH does it exactly like I do.
I climb on to my first stick out of the stand and then un hook the stand, I then climb down the tree with the stand in my hand around the back of the tree (hugging the tree with the stand in my hands)
OR
If I am in a tree that is perfectly straight or leaning away from me i will rest my chest against the tree and put one strap (backpack strap) from the stand around my shoulder and climb down that way.
I then climb back up and remove a stick, bring it down, go up get another stick, bring it down, sometimes I can bring down a stick in each hand while hugging the tree, but that isn't always favorable in every situation.

Lower bow. Drop line. Take down stand, hook up belt securely, put on back. Take off top stick, wrap strap around it and climb down to next one and then drop stick, repeat.

Folks need to be careful no matter what method you use.
Saving a minute or two aint worth falling.

I do it like Dan. I just sling stand over one shoulder and start climbing down instead of on my back.Whatever works for you and feels safe and comfortable.

Re: Taking down your setup?
Well I was asking trying to find the most quiet way. I prefer using my lineman belt on the way down. Just dont like dropping things. Thought about lowering bow and dropping the pull rope. Stand on first step unhook stand put on back....when coming down the tree have a plastic hook to attach a stick to each side of my waist and one in the rear. But I normally use 5 sticks.
Would like some ideas other than dropping the sticks. May have to stick to climbing up and down a couple trips.????

Re: Taking down your setup?
Well, if I need to be quiet I will slowly take down each step, but thats rarely the case. Most of the time I have no intention of coming back anytime soon, nothing came out, or non-shooters came out. Regardless, no target animal around, no need to be quiet. And, when dropping the sticks straight down and aiming for specific spots, they don't make a lot of noise if the buckle is secured...

Re: Taking down your setup?
Okay that makes sense. Its just there isnt much public ground around thats worth a darn. When im hunting farms I attempt at being as stealthy in and out as possible. However it makes more sense to not worry so much about dropping the sticks if im not gonna return any time soon.
