I take back all that about the thermacell. Looks like my uncle just had the west nile virus. Man was he sick. Guess I'll be breathing whatever fumes or chemicals I have to if the virus is around here and it makes you that sick.

Two people have died from it in Kent county and three in Ionia.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

A death from W Nile was just reported in Ogema county to my north. Hopefully the cold weather knocks the skeeters down a bunch.

West Nile is a nuisance in most cases. You may have even had it and not known. I hate mosquito's.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I see a Mocomb county man just died from it too and Kent county (just down the road) now has 34 people sick from it. It still isn't near as bad as 2002, but these cases are closer to home this time.
I probably should have went out and prepped my spots, but a big wet marsh just didn't seem like a smart place to be during a local outbreak.

I'm too ornery for some nasty virus to kill me anyway...
I think what really gets people going is when they put up the maps of the state with each county highlighted on where there are cases, and which counties have reported deaths. That really gets people's attention...

Re: Has West Nile stopped you from scouting?
Got nailed pretty good on Saturday by the skeeters while hunting in the marsh. Like a idiot I forgot my Thermacell.
Haven't heard any cases locally but seeing how bad it is in other areas makes a guy kinda worried. I am not going to change what I do but need to make sure I am prepared at all times.
I find in marshes it takes at least 3 hard freezes to kill the skeeters. The surface at base of cattails is so much warmer than the surrounding air and keeps them alive longer.
