I Think I'll Get The Tag
I went into the Iowa drawing with four pref points. Paid $566.83 for the tag, and three $10 pref points, and one $50 pref point. I got $646.83 tied up so far in just the opportunity. I'm going for zone 5 and gonna hunt public only (unless I get permission some how, you never know who your gonna meet on the road).
Anyone else doing Iowa this year? Anyone ever do zone 5 public?
I won't get there until probably Nov 13th, due to other hunting in other places. I'll keep my end date loose.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
If I get drawn I will be going to zone 7. I had two points going in. I will be there at that time also unless I get lucky and fill some tags early in other states.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
I just put in for a point... Next year. I had a lot of luck in zone four. But didn't stay on the public land much cause most farms gave me permission to hunt. I hear its harder to get private access in 5... But never personally tried.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
Zone 5 has the Red Rock area, and the Rathbun Lake area. Along with a lot of smaller pieces. It's on the southeast end. Zone 6 is the furthest southeast, and 5 is to the west of it. 5 has the Des moine River basin through it.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
Very good area. I'm not sure if I can help you out with any info though. Does your zone include towns like Wapello or Muscatine? If so, then I can tell you of a couple GREAT public areas.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
Thanks Muddy, but those two places look like they're in zone 6. I think Lee and Tiffany are just to the south of those places. I think Kisky's are down that way too. I'm gonna look up the actual zone boundary though.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
Well, I got the tag. The rest is up to me. Time to dive into some public land, sight unseen.

Got mine too. This will be my first time to Iowa. I seen 7 guys with my last name from Michigan and all drew tags. One guy from Hawaii drew also.

Re: I Think I'll Get The Tag
Thanks. After I knew I was getting a tag , I needed a place to stay. I found a cabin on a farm to stay at. When I booked the cabin, the gal said the cabin was on a 640 acre farm. I asked permission to hunt, and she said sure, and you can talk to my husband. I talked to him, and he dosen't hunt, but he said the same thing. I could hunt the farm! I feel like I hit the lottery. Plus I picked the cabin because of the public land in the area I have been studying via ariel maps. I'm soooooo happy right now.
