 WOW! Yes PLH we will have a tradgedy like this soon I'm afraid! Whether its someone trying to save their bear dogs from wolves or a semi tame black bear attack in someones backyard etc.... The bear and wolf populations are spiraling out of control and with all the backyard feeding and with urban sprawl, its just a matter of time before a close call turns into more than that!

"it's possible the coyotes thought Mitchell was a deer or other prey."

Prey yes, but those coyotes knew she wasn't any deer. Sad to hear that.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

The autopsy of the teacher in Alaska confirmed that it was death by wolves, and the student in Saskatchewan was killed by wolves too- the student was with wolves that were being fed by people.

The coyotes around my home are much braver than before, probably from an expanding population.

Think any Anti's were out picketing and crying for the poor young lady taken down so unmercifully by their nice and cuddly coyotes?

That incident happened In Cape Breton not far from my home . I have the article that was printed in the news here too . I will post it for ya . The parents of the girl said that she would be very upset to know that they killed the cotoes that attacked her !!!What a shame it was . Now they brough in bounty on coyotes in Nova Scotia because of it .

The response of some people amaze me...if I was her Dad I would be out stacking up coyotes just for the sake of it. I know that may be overracting, but IMO - survival of the fittest at its finest!

Michigan Outdoor News ran a piece on the behavior of Wolves/coyotes highlighting this tragic death.

Internationally know Valerius Geist has detailed an 8 stage pattern that these predators follow towards alternative prey.

They start with exploring and end up confronting and attacking alternative prey.

Anyone see this piece. Very detailed statistics on attacks towards humans. Children are generally the target of these predators

Sad story. I agree there will be more like this. This last 2 weeks there has been a bobcat roaming downtown Dallas in the daytime. Been quite a sight and news story. Looked healthy.

I can believe that a bobcat would take refuge downtown in a big city. Trash, rats, rabbits and pigeons would make for some good vittles!
