What dates do the majority of the bucks drop in your area?

Unread postby Stanley » Tue Jan 10, 2012 10:44 am

Just wondering what time frames you feel the bulk of the bucks drop antlers. We know at some point all bucks will have dropped. Should be interesting.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

This is a tough one for me to answer because it seems like its getting earlier every year here in SW Wisconsin, atleast for my immediate area anyway. I've heard several guys found sheds already, but would suspect the majority to drop @ end of Jan....

For many years the majority dropped around the first two weeks of Feb.

But this part has me puzzeled...for the past five years or so its changed. Now the majority drops around the last week of Feb. first week of Mar. :confusion-scratchheadblue:

There are exceptions. I was just giving an average for my area over the last 25 seasons I've hunted there.

I started looking already.

Looked around the city golf course today, no sheds.

But I found fifty golf balls...

And some nice rubs.

Haha nice. I have looked twice in the past week. Both briefly - only about 45 minutes or an hour each time. The first time I found a single fresh antler and the second trip I found two antlers which were both dropped last year.

Typically, most bucks in my area drop between valentine's day and st. patty's day (Feb 14-Mar 17). That would be the period when I think the most drop. However, I have found that deer that hang out together sometimes shed together. Last year I went to check on some deer on Feb 9 and they were hanging out in the only yard around, I assume eating the cut grass. There were 7 antlers laying there - 3 matched sets and one single. All of these deer dropped in the week leading up to Feb 9.

I have seen some shed bucks recently. What's interesting is one of the bucks I mentioned above, which shed probably between Feb 3-Feb 8 last year, has shed antlers this past week. He is a big, healthy buck. He is at least 4.5, I think probably 5.5
