How old???
I admittedly rely on rack size quit a bit when I guess a bucks age on the hoof. I know the bucks in my area and feel I can get close most of the time...with that said, if he's big I'll shoot regardless of age, LOL.
How much do you rely on antlers to determine age? How old do you think this deer is?

Re: How old???
I believe that the deer's position/posture makes it look older.

Re: How old???
IDK, 4 or 5?
FWIW, I remember an article in Deer and Deer Hunting a while back where they studied the subject of aging deer on the hoof. The story goes something like this, multiple "experts" (biologists, hunters, etc.) tried to age a group of animals on the hoof according to body, belly, etc. Then, they had the same experts age another group of the animals by their antlers. They found that even the experts were the most accurate at aging the animals via their antlers.

4.5
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

My knee jerk reaction is at least 5.5 but it's tough to tell for me with that picture. If his head wasn't turned I could make A better guess.
