Just shot WI Public Land 8 Pointer!
Not huge by any means. In fact it may be the same deer I passed yesterday. But given that it was public land which gets worse every day after the opener, it was only the second day ever hunting there, I have a BIG test on Tuesday and a couple lab reports due before going home for Thanksgiving, I decided to shoot. No video of the shot, but I have the tracking and scenario footage that I'll upload, as well as pics. Now I can spend some more time with my family over Thanksgiving weekend. I hardly ever get to see them anymore and it'll be nice to just enjoy the weekend with them.
It was kind of funny, as I had my stand 2 feet off the ground with no sticks. I jumped off to take a leak and saw him coming in. I pinched it off and grabbed the shotgun, don't even remember if I zipped up the pants or not
At first I thought doe, which I would have shot, then knew it was a small buck, and was going to pass. I put the scope on him just for fun, saw he was a small 8, and pulled the trigger. All those reasons listed before were really playing in the back of my mind as he was standing in the cross hairs broadside at 40 yards.
Strange, the first 40 yards there was no blood or hair, and he was running fine. I thought I must have missed. Then he must've stopped by a tree, found first blood and he started dragging a foot. He was laying 20 yards from that spot. If there hadn't been snow, I don't think I would've found this deer. I would have assumed I missed after trying to track for 40 yards with no blood and being unable to tell which trail he was on. When I was packing my stand, another hunter came walking my way, just still hunting the area. Who knows, maybe he had pushed the deer to me an hour and a half earlier. Anyways he was nice enough to offer to help drag it back to the road, as that was more fun for him than to "walk around and not see anything". Decent rack for a 1 1/2. I'm hoping that means there's good genetics out there, as I still have late bow to hunt. I can't imagine it gets much pressure.

Nice shootin!
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

Good job.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Scenario/Tracking video
Feel free to fast forward through the tracking. I was going to speed up much of the walking but then forgot to before rendering and uploading the video.
