Blood ?
What seemed like a great shot has me wondering now!! I hit a buck @ 35 yards today. He ran 10 yards and stopped and stood there for 5 minutes. I was waiting for him to tip over. He never tipped and started to walk down a 10' bank and up the other side. The other side is steep for 15 - 20 feet and then a fair grade for another 70 yards to the top. After he went up the other steep part he stopped to take a break, then walked a little further and stopped again. As he started to walk again I could no longer see him. I stayed on stand for another hour and a half. I then got down to look for the arrow with no luck in all the deep leaves and it could have went over the bank. I then went to where he stood for that 5 minutes to check the blood out. To me the blood looked thick. I then backed out and called my neighbor. 3 hours after the shot we wanted to see what kind of blood was on the hillside and it looked thinner(more normal) So we followed it up the hill to see that he tried to lay down 3 times within 30 yards but it looked liked he must have been in pain. When we got to the top of the hill he hit the soil bank and we were running out of light so I decided to back off till morning. Tell me what you guys think PLEASE!!

Where do you think you hit him? Forward? Back?
What you describe makes me think liver.

That's what I was thinking too. I hit a buck in the liver once that acted just like your buck. Just walked away like nothing was wrong. I think you will find him very close dead in the morning.

Re: Blood ?
Sorry I should have mentioned that but my mind is a mess right now replaying everything in my mind. As he was standing there for that five minutes I had my binos on him the whole time as he was out forty seven yards acording to my range finder. I could see from the rib cage back and there was no hole in him. I thought it looked like a whole in him right behind the shoulder in the sweet spot. I am puzzled because I really remained calm as I new I wanted to shoot him the minute I seen him coming down the bluff. He first stopped at 30yards but there was a 4" sappling covering him up right behind the shoulder. He then moved right into my 35 clean open lane. I didn't stop him but he was just barely mooping along. Had him and 2 other 2.5 right on me at the same time it was 1:46 today. It was great I just hope and pray that I can find him tomorrow as I'm pretty sure he look to be a 4.5 to me really nice heavy frame buck and I didn't even count tines but I think he looked to be a 10 pointer.

G5 Striker they have really worked well on other deer, but I have never killed a buck of this caliber before.

Totally broadside. I had a feeling when I picked this tree that this is one of the spots I would get a really good shot at shooting a deer. I had it ranged and was fully confident with the shot. I didnt see the arrow hit so I really have no idea what happened.

Re: Blood ?
Are you 100% positive that you got a pass thru? The side you could see when he stood, was that the entrance or potential exit side?
Sounds like liver to me as well. I would give him till mid morning.

Not sure on the pass thru it just looked like blodd coming from both sides. Going to try and find the arrow again first thing in the morning. I really didn't put as much effort as I should have at the time looking for the arrow. My mind goes a mile a minute after a deal like that.

Re: Blood ?
I think it looks like heart blood, but he wouldnt have made it long if it were heart. My guess under the circumstance is liver or kidney, and either should mean a dead buck in the morning. Cant wait to see the pictures of him!
