WI looking for mentors

Unread postby Uncle Lou » Thu Mar 24, 2011 8:29 am

Got this story from Grand View Media. Sounds like WI DNR wants some sponsors to help young turkey hunters to learn to stalk. I say the state should buy Dan's new DVD and distribute throughout the great state of WI.

One of my work buddies just filled out the paperwork yesterday. He is sponsoring aturkey hunt for a handicap child (ren). He asked me to help out, I said what ever I can do. Truth is I really don't know squat about turkey hunting, but will do what I can with his "group".

that's cool Hodag, glad to hear the program is being promoted. Hope some kids get to eat some wild turkey. Tellem not to overcook it, it will be tough and they might not want to continue hunting them.

I know the story says "stalk" turkeys, but I honestly think it is a misprint as Stalking turkeys has been Taboo ever since I can remember, matter of fact alot of the early literature put out by the DNR stated (and maybe still does) stalking turkeys is dangerous. Well I can say it is no more dangerous than stalking anything else, but for some that can't tell a fake from the real deal it could be problematic. I've had other hunters stalk my dekes before and not realize until I made them see me........Of course alittle common sense would go along ways for some of these people, real turkeys rarely stand still for more than a few seconds at a time unless it is pouring rain.

True for the most part, except when it is pouring rain. I have seen birds in the middle of a hay field in a downpour that just tuck thier heads and stand motionless.
