Supernova with speed bead and Vortex Venom

Unread postby loganB85 » Fri Mar 13, 2020 4:49 pm

I did a little splurging this year on some DSD decoys and a red dot for my supernova. I ordered a speed bead mount and a Vortex Venom today from optics planet. The options seemed very limited for my shotgun and I think I made a good choice. I didn’t like some of the reviews on saddleback mounts causing some binding issues cycling shells and the receiver being polymer drilling/tapping for a mount wasn’t the best option. Anybody who runs this type of combo on their turkey guns? If so how do you like it?

I like it so far. I’ve never had a red dot sight on a shotgun before so I’m in new territory. I have an Aimpoint H-1 on my BCM recce 16 that is hands down the best company in red dots without a doubt in my opinion. I just couldn’t justify a $600 optic on a $600 gun that isn’t drilled and tapped which would make the price go up even more. The only issue I’m having is getting the dot right on top of my front bead. I can get it there but I have to adjust the wedge screw on the SpeedBead a lot and max out the elevation dial on the Venom. I ordered a UM tactical 1 degree shim from Amazon that I hope will get that taken care of for me. Once I get that straight I will probably never go back to a conventional bead on my turkey guns for the rest of my gobbler hunting years. Hope these help you out bubba.

Been thinking of getting something like that for my Ruger frontier for better field of view. The forward mounted scope has limited field of view. But that's off topic.

Am I understanding correctly, it is not drilled and tapped in any metal, its in the stock? If so that is interesting.

It mounts between the but stock and the receiver

Thanks Austin, that is pretty cool. I was going to go search it out, but you beat me to it.

I toyed with a saddleback mount, rib mounting a red dot, or the Speedbead mount. I think it was the right choice. I won’t truly know until I put some 3 1/2’s through it to see how it holds zero.
