2012 Turkey fans

Unread postby UntouchableNess » Sat Jan 05, 2013 2:45 pm

I was kind of at a loss to figure out what I should do with my 2012 turkey fans. When I shot them, I cut all the flesh out of them, piled the borax on, then spread them out on a 1X12, tacked into place to dry. But how to display them? Mounting each one individually was going to take up a bunch of wall space.

So......., earlier in the year I was trying to make firewood out of an old oak. There were some parts that wouldn't split, so I slabbed them with the chainsaw. I liked one slab so I put it on the porch instead of burning it. I kept looking at it about every time I leave/enter the house.

The idea dawned on me to try to get a wire or rod in the fans, drill some holes in the slab, stand them up. I went to the shed and got five 16 penny pole barn ring shank nails and cut some plastic molds to hold the plaster of Paris I mixed up to fasten the nail to the tail. I might paint the plaster brown. I thought about putting the beards across the front.

I still have the 2009 and 2010 fans to mount yet :(

Looks great!

I had some kitchen cabinet doors left over and did a fan of Grouse feathers for my son's room...
Also did one for a termanly ill friend w/ a collage of pictures (RIP) - he loved it!
