Tell me about Gravel Roads !
In my opinion ,, bears and deer can hear your Approaching ,,, Much better on a Gravel road , compared to an Asphalt road....

If hunting close to the road, I typically drive past a good distance or park before a good distance my intended entrance into the woods. Park and walk down the dirt road if possible.

They hear you. But, probably pay little to no attention unless you stop close to where they happen to be at that time.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Sounds like you need a bike John. Stealthy as can be.
I ride past deer that barely even pay attention to me.
As far as baited bear hearing you coming that might be a good thing. Just like ringing a dinner bell.

I have said this before and will say it again...by the time the season starts those bears will know what you smell like, sound like, will know the sound of your vehicle and what type of truck you drive lol.... doesn't matter how stealthy you try to be they know when you are there.

They can be great for scouting overlooked spots next to the road or parking, tracks all over the road and they are there. You obviously cant park there so you have to go down the road and park or find a back way in, know the area well so you don't mess it up. Had a nice stare down with a good one last year because I pushed in too far instead of setting up. Not the subject you wanted to cover but I've gotten on some good deer this way, doesn't work all the time but a super easy way to speed scout.

I've heard that human traffic really increases that week before the Opener. Deer or bear

Re: Tell me about Gravel Roads !
Bears are not like deer... You need to get further off the road side with bear... That said, some of my MN baits are extremly remote and we are using seldom used logging roads to access and the bears can hear you coming from a long way off. for hunting I park a good distance away and walk it... If your hunting Wisconsin and your close enough to the gravel road for the bears to hear you, you probably have bigger issues with dog hunters or trainers who run the back roads with hound on top of there rigs smelling for Roadside bears

Re: Tell me about Gravel Roads !
I have sites on gravel and blacktop roads that are 50-75 yards off the roads. We have never had any issues shooting bears from them. Actually one site have produced two 300 pound plus bears. Last year a 226 pound sow was shot off it last fall and the while the hunter sat on stand a larger bear walked down the trail and the hunter figured crossed the road.
