Re: My 2021 Minnesota Bear Hunt
Please pray for these residents and firefighters as they battle these forest fires "Pray for Rain". This message is from Jim Wallner: I will not be bear baiting today or posting any pictures.
Many of you may not know but, we are experiencing major wildfires in the area. Small towns and many people living in remote areas are being evacuated and structures are being lost.
I and members of our Fire Dept will be doing what we can today. I ask that everyone keeps their thoughts with the people of the Finland and Isabella areas.

This looks absolutely devastating. I am sure that the pictures don’t near do justice. I have been involved in 2 separate natural disasters myself (tornadoes), but have never lost a home.
I can’t imagine what some of these people are going through. Prayers for each and every person affected by this.

Hopefully some rain arrives with the next few days, there is some forecasted. I saw from a family friend pretty massive smoke clouds from just north of silver bay. It’s really unfortunate given how dry the woods have been.
Persistence is undefeated.

Re: My 2021 Minnesota Bear Hunt
One more day of work then I'm off for 13 days my first stop I am heading to Mille Lacs Lake for some fishing and camping fun then come Monday setting up bear camp near Grand Marais. I find myself waking early more than ever now (4 am and in the gym by 5) and going over everything multiple times in my mind, kind of the same feeling as when I guided bear hunters but with a little twist now as I am the hunter and will be relying on and trusting in someone one else to fill in that baiting void. I'm not after a monster bear although if one presents itself I won't hesitate, all I want is a good hunt that gets the heart pumping.
I'm looking forward to meeting up with Dan and the boys in their camp, exchange bear hunting strategies and stories, and just some good old fashion comradery. There's a reason why forces have brought Jimmy Wallner and me together Talk later

This is going to be another tough day on the Greenwood fire. I’m at Castle Danger to the south right now, and the wind is in excess of 15 mph. At the Ely Municipal Airport, it was gusting to 16 mph at 7:55 am and forecast to gust to 20. We’ve had crap for rain this week. This fire is going to expand tremendously again today.

Gunflint Trail is closing down to 92 at Iron Lake. This is getting extremely bad quick.

Re: My 2021 Minnesota Bear Hunt
All packed and ready to go.... looks like they will finally get some rain up there (put those forest fires out), during the hunt more rain and the wind is supposed to be out of the East. Got a chip in my windshield this morning, company was out here right away to fix it. East wind, rain, chip in the windshield, I hope this is not an indication of how things are going to go. Either way, it's going to be an awesome time.....

Another ruling, starting Monday no drop camp camping, only camp ground camping. They did get some rain up there today hoping for a monsoon on Saturday.

The good soaking rain didn’t last long. Been a slight drizzle for a bit and then it would stop. Wind is picking up now.

I was watching the radar. Seems like the heavy rain stayed away from your area.
