Freelance Bowhunter wrote:Yes it is a bowkill, I have quite a few more pics of it. Have not heard about the 840, only the 700 lbs. He's from Crosby Minnesota, but supposedly shot the bear in the No-quota near Bemidji, but that's just a rumor.

That’s what the facebook pictures I got in a text said as well.

Anyone following the backstory on this now? Looks like there’s some major holes in the story.

I have talked to the hunter and it's quite a story, I'm doing an article on it for Bear Hunting Magazine. Weighed 718 dressed which puts it right at 850 live. Huge head too.

The bait was in No-Quota near Bemidji and he shot the bear at 8:00 am. Believe it or not he didn't have a trail cam on his bait so he had no idea this bear was around until it walked in. The guy literally broke all the normal rules of bear baiting, but sometimes that's what works.

You'll have to wait for the story to learn the rest. :)

Nice to hear it was all legit. Just like a super high scoring buck. Some jealous nimpcompoop has to start rumors to try and stir things up. Because "no way can someone get one that big legally".

Well I have put the story for Bear Hunting Magazine on hold until this cools off. The guy has a lot of criminal history and lots of DNR violations, he definitely a habitual violator but that doesn't mean this bear was not legit. There are definitely some causes for concern though. We will see how this develops before I proceed.

Not good. :o

Really sucks if a magnificent beast like that was taken illegally stealing from an honest hunter.

Yikes....... guess I may have spoke too soon. Thought since Bernie was doing the story it was all legit! How do you expect to get away with something like that? Especially when you splash it all over social media. And have a history of violations.

From the lengthy record this guy has sounds like he is highly deficient in that area. :naughty:

If this whole thing is dirty, it sucks for all hunters. The negatives get reported about 10 times as much as the positive impact of hunters.
