Best way to stop a moving bear

Unread postby Horizontal Hunter » Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:13 am

What is the best way to stop a moving bear to get a shot?

For the record no bait, dogs, burns, etc so it is hunting over natural food sources, intercepting in between or predator calls here.

Thanks,

Bob

I shot one with the bow once. I just bleated at him like a deer and he stopped perfect. I don't know if that's recommended or not but it worked once.

If you are hunting with a firearm, stop him with your bullet. If bowhunting, any noise will stop them and usually they will look for a moment. They do not duck like a deer when they are alarmed so shoot a the spot you want to hit.

It was one of those where the bear wasn’t walking but wasn’t running. It was sorta in between. I was rifle hunting but I didn’t have a shot that I was willing to take so I yelled hey when he entered a shooting lane........then he started running. :DOH

I only needed a second but he took off like his azz was on fire.

Thank you for replying. That’s great info for a novice bear hunter like me.

Try blowing on a distress call for a second?

with a gun i aim a inch below the ear i like smoked bear ribs. with a bow i take my time and put a good one in the boiler i rather pass a shot then chase a wounded bear. but they have really good hearing so a soft noise will normally stop them fast and freeze them. if that does not work it wasn't meant too be
