Do Southren Bears hibernate?

Unread postby Black Squirrel » Thu Aug 16, 2012 4:15 am

Just had this question pop into my head for some reason. Never given any thought to it before, and don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to bears. So with that said, Do Bears that live in the south hibernate?

I think It depends on where In the south but from what I've heard they do not In states such as New Mexico. An official P&Y measurer friend of mine has said several times that the bear down there have much bigger heads then that of a bear up here the same age. Reason being, their eating and growing 365 days a year, not hibernating for 5 months.

great question thanks for answering Schultzy. Now it got me thinking what do mothers with new cubs do? Do they stay in the den for 3 or 4 months until the cubs are old enough to get around?

Great questions.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
