New Food Plot
We started a food plot in the bluffs of SE MN last weekend. I'll update the pics as we go. Here's the land owner brush hogging it in.

Man I wish I could make one that size.
What are you going to be planting in there?

Nice start.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I might add if you cut any small trees out mark the stumps with a flag (rocks also). Saves on equipment, you can work around them rather than over them. After a few years the stumps will rot away with the exception of cedars and Osage orange.

Going to put in Rye Grass for sure - maybe with a little Winter Greens mixed in.

What is the next step? I like following threads like this. Always nice to see the progress with pictures.

Re: New Food Plot
Next week disc (possibly burn first) and seed. I already sprayed so hopefully everything is going to be dead.

Hope you saved the Toyota. It's going to be famous in the next couple of weeks.

Re: New Food Plot
Ac, we just put a 1 acre plot in very similar to the type of area you are. We did not burn but it would have been easier if we did. A plow is a must and you will find the root clumps to be a pain but if you can be patient they will eventually disappear. We disked the area a couple times after plowing and then seeded. We seeded RR beans in June and just recently seeded in Winter rye, Purple Top Turnips, Daikon Radishes, and some dwarf Essex rape. The beans were eaten to the ground so at the second planting the plot was pretty weed free and looked much better. Those clumps will be a pain at first but will erode away. Good luck and pray for some timely rain!

Still have it... Might sell it after it goes up in value next week LOL. There is going to be a crazy picture of it in F&S Mag. next issue.
My son in-law bought me a new ( to me ) Beast truck.

Re: New Food Plot
Just seeded yesterday and here's the finished product. We used a springtooth ATV pull behind and a tractor disc. We also burned first which made it so much easier. Planted mostly Rye and brassicas.
