16# Michigan Walleye

Unread postby Singing Bridge » Thu Apr 04, 2019 11:18 am

I’ve landed several eyes over 12+ but 16... that’s monolithic!! The fish was netted during a DNR fish tagging exercise on my hometown river, the Tittabawassee which dumps into the Saginaw river followed by Saginaw Bay.

Heck yeah! When I helped net 'eyes on some of Iowas lakes (to strip eggs) we would get some GAGGERS. Too bad this was before digital cams and smart phones.

No, all the states eggs came from netting on Spirit & Okoboji lakes in NW Iowa, Clear Lake in central Iowa, and Rathbun lake in S Iowa. I worked at Clear and I swear we had egg laden females over 20# and 30", but it's been a number of years past and I could be wrong? The 55" musky we brought in was something to see also.

Wow! What a dandy

I'd have to let that one go if I were to catch one that size

Hmm.....might have to go try that spot in a few weeks and see if she's still around! ;) You'll definitely hear about it if someone catches her during Walleye fest.

Back in the day my dad and I caught a few close to that size up on the Manistee, but it was always right after season closed in March. You always knew when you had one on because they felt like a log compared to a steelhead.

The dnr normally shock up a few pigs (15+ lbs) out the muskegon river for egg collection every year. I believe a few years back they shocked one that weighed 21lbs. By the way, did anyone see the 26 lb walleye caught out of lake Erie this spring?

That is an absolute tank. Living in Nebraska I don't get the chance to get to high quality walleye waters all that often, I have only caught 3 over 8 lbs. I would lose my mind on a fish like that.
