Found my first hill country bed

Unread postby keepthefevercalls » Thu Jul 21, 2016 12:20 am

My wife and I got out to do a but of scouting on public land yesterday. Didn't get to got everything I wanted to, but managed to see some cool stuff. Saw a pack of 3 coyotes and my wife treed a coon. We headed up the mountain and found multiple trails, the strongest of which was the highest and would be in the usual thermal tunnel on a North North West wind. Found lots of poop, mainly in obvious feeding areas. Tons of bear sign too. My favorite spot was right where the deer are forced around a huge rock outcropping. There were about 4 or 5 trails all connecting into one spot, hung a camera there as well as on another trail. About 150 yards up the mountain on a good sized bench I found a single bed that looks like it gets used a good bit. I had found a lot of fresh sign so I looked around and happened on it.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help so far, I'll keep up the scouting and reading!

Didn't have time to delve deeper, but I will.

Dan sure knows what he is talking about. I hunted Wisconsin last year and learned so much about marsh bedding but never saw deer. Hoping this hill country stuff works out at least to see something.
