camera scouting

Unread postby lostinstateforest » Fri Jan 17, 2014 1:29 pm

This has been inspired by Black squirrel and his thread about parallel travel lines. This isnt the same kind of parallel travel line as much as an attempt to learning more about movement rather than inventory. First this is a cell camera so pardon the quality and these were sent tonight, date is wrong.

The stump has a generic stump licjer molasses type substance on it. It was put there Sunday. This is about 2 miles in the way the man walks. I have had visits from coon, doe, and coyote but today was the first buck visits. Nothing big but daylight travel and with the wind I would have hunted, but this isnt the direction I would have expected the deer coming from.
Both deer entered the frame from right to left. Which way would guess the wind to be blowing? Or do you think the wind has no bearing on evening travel and only where the would be coming from due to morning bedding.

Why don't you check the weather if you know the date/time/direction of travel?

I'm also a little confused, what type of parallel trail are you monitoring?

The parallel thread reference was just a reference to a thread that the pictures could/did teach or reinforced alot, so I am trying to learn from this. This is not a parallel trail, this is simply a travel corridor I am monitoring for winter inventory but the 2 bucks that have showed up are traveling in completely opposite directions of the does that have appeared and contrary to what I would have guessed. I also know what way the wind was blowing I am curious what you would assume the wind was based off of the direction of travel.

Were the pictures taken in February?
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I would say the deer are looking for something to eat.
