HUGE melt off going on now. I finally have time to scout. What to look for now? Tracks on food sources? Try and get out a lot before it greens up

Re: Snowless Scouting
5 to 9 inches of snow here in Green Bay today. Our January thaw is done! Turning out to be a long winter... Snowless scouting is a long ways away around here!!

If you have no snow, I'm looking for beds and sheds. I'm in the same boat at PLB and a bit jealous of your situation.

Re: Snowless Scouting
Not sure what terrain your hunting? But walking transitions and look to cut large tracks, then back track them to bedding. Could be done on ag fields, marsh edges, etc... Also l look for food sources, spots wherever they brouse on brush, oak trees, may cut a track leading to bedding here too. Use the fresh mud to your advantage, like the snow. Also look up to see sign of other hunters, stands, trees scratched up from climbers, and trail cams. I think this is overlooked by most, till they see someone else during the season. Could be an important piece to the puzzle later on when you know where they bed.

Re: Snowless Scouting
Agree with plb and Bass. No snow is my favorite scouting. Old sign, beds, plus easier walking for most part

Re: Snowless Scouting
Best time to scout man..This time of year is about scouting in the windows between snow storms. Hopefully, we don't get much more this year
Walk the thick stuff, follow transitions, and you will find bedding.

100% agree with this. Tracks are the best sign to focus on IMHO

Re: Snowless Scouting
Which would you start with first, walking transitions and finding a track and follow it to bed or walk the 1/3 line until you find bed(s)?

If your in hill country walk the top 1/3 elevation, if not follow other transitions... You could also cyber scout and go right to where the beds should be.
