4/20 Iowa public scout

Unread postby hoot » Sun Apr 21, 2013 2:33 pm

I checked another piece of public today. I had high hopes for this one since map only showed 1 parking area. In reality there were 3 that I saw. It's shaped like a giant upside down T and is a lil over 600acres. That 600 acres is deceiving. It may be 600acres as you look from above, but that doesnt include the vertical acreage. thats another million. Wow. The property is basicly a river/creek bottom with steep ridges on either side. Crop fields on top of ridges on pvt. Some crops down below. Very lil sign on the hills. There were acorns everywhere. Most sign was in the thick stuff in the bottoms. thick is relative term since this was pretty open woods, but again I'm sure thickens up once green.
Overall I was very dissapointed. Though I did see 7 deer, the buck sign was almost non existent and I didnt find any beds on any of the points. It sure is cool watching the deer travel them steep hills effortlessly.
I did manage to pick up a deer tick. I think I got it yesterday. I didnt notice it till my way home today when it started to hurt. By this time he was burrowed half way in. I couldnt get it out so I took a trip to hospital to get it. Got an 1/8' divit now. lol. Doc gave me some pills for the lyme disease. Last thing I expected was a tick this time of year.
