Scouting trip 4-5

Unread postby Czabs » Sat Apr 06, 2013 12:35 pm

Went out in the swamp all day today and boy was it fun. I can't get enough of walking through knee high water from bed to bed trying to figure out these deer. I found a shed also of a nice 2 yr old 8 I'm pretty sure I passed on in early October. I got so much done today, picked a lot of trees out and got up in them with my lonewolf. Also found some new beds, a couple of nice ones. Love it, love it, love it! Here are some pics.

This is a big buck bed I found, underneath a cedar tree, promising sign around the bed, 2 trails coming from and too the bed.

Hair in the bed..

Crap in the bed..

My stand from the buck bed 20 yards away, some people put the treestand on the front of the tree...I like to put mine on the back of the tree hiding myself from and then reaching around to shoot on one side and filming on the other side.Image

Here is my view from my stand, just above the dogwood branches to get a shot. I will elect to hunt this bed with a stronger west wind on a morning sit. I sat there for a while trying to decipher what way the buck would go in the afternoon when leaving his bed and I was puzzled. I'm going to try a mid October sit in the morning getting in an hr early. Wind and rain would help disguise my noise entering. If he comes from either way he's getting an arrow. Red blob is bed. Red dotted are trails. Yellow X is clear shot. Havent had much luck in the mornings early in the season but its worth a shot.Image

Stumbled upon what I thought was yote crap..

Soon after I found this...

All in all it was a fun day to be out. Looking forward to another scouting trip! 8-)

Looks like a good set up but did I misunderstand your post where you said your stand will be 20 yards from the bed?

That would be very tough to do!

Great day in the field.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
