SCOUTING MAPS via SMARTPHONE

Unread postby backstraps » Thu Jul 12, 2012 10:51 am

I was asked a good question today. (Dont know why they asked me, heck I dont know crap about technology)

Anyway, bubba asked today if he loaded a map that he has edited to show boarders, areas of interest, and planned entry /exits routes onto an app. Could the app allow him to load "his" map, and show his location and movements via the phones gps system?

Do you guys know of an app, or moble program that would allow this?

PS: His name wasnt bubba... I was just teasing about me being a redneck again :)

THANKS

This is the best I've found. Similar to Cabela's Recon Hunt, but this is slightly better. I made a post about it several weeks back. It is great to look stuff over on a tablet, then it can sync up with your smartphone. This program makes the cost of an iPad worthwhile. It was free a few weeks back- not sure if t still is.

I don't know that you could import your maps into an app, however you might be able to edit and save some of the maps in a current gps or mapping app. He would have to redraw his lines and map stuff through the app. I have never done any of this myself so I can't say for sure but I think it might be your best bet.

For example, a buddie had a great gps app on his phone that loaded aerial photos and maps from Google, it showed our location as we navigated a swamp. Now if the app also allowed you to use Google My Maps you mark up and save the maps. This could also be possilbe with other map apps like Mapquest, Bing or several others.
