Do you enjoy scouting?

Do you enjoy scouting? Do you enjoy the work involved? Is the puzzle of figuring out big bucks part of the fun of killing them?

Or... Is scouting the grueling work you must do to acquire success?

I honestly can say I enjoy scouting as much or more than hunting. The challenge of figuring the deer out by studying them year round is what I love to do. Like you said it is a piece of the puzzle and when it all comes together it is very satisfying.

Yes, when I have plenty of time so that I can relax and enjoy it. In fact when I have lots of time on my hands (like any of us have that anymore) I actually tend to enjoy it more than hunting.

This is also a yes. When I don't really have the time and I have to bust my tail without taking any rests and I can't slow down to really get into it, then I don't enjoy it at all. Unfortunately, this the mode I am usually in these day's. You know that saying "how's that working for ya"? Well, it isn't. Scouting and rushing it (not to be confused with power scouting) are a bad combination that just don't work well together and it's been showing. :-(

Since I have learned HOW TO SCOUT I enjoy it immensely. As soon as deer hunting season is over I scout most days that I am not working. There is nothing like finding good sign and a buck bed in an area you haven't hunted before. I just wish I had more large public lands near my home.

I used to hate it, but it needed to be done, and a lot of times it didn't get done. After attending Dans workshop and learning a proper way to do it, I find it enjoyable. I still prefer to hunt, but I also like knowing I am in a good spot and scouting will ensure that.

I enjoy scouting, but no way does it compare to hunting. Ive had years I drove 16hrs just to scout for a day and a half, then head back. Swamp scouting is hard work, no way around that. Knowing how Dan scouts, saves me a lot of uneccesary blazing thru useless ground. I think Im more efficient at scouting now.

I really enjoy scouting! Usually I am out at least one or two days a week from Christmas until green up. If I miss a weekend I kind of have withdrawal like symtoms...grumpy, fidgety etc...until I can get an outdoor "fix".

In the winter I love to follow large tracks, just to get a feel for how the bucks move through the marsh. Winter and early spring it is sooooooo much easier to scout, when you are not sinking in to your knees or hips with every step......after the melt it is a PIA.

Love it when I have the time!

Frustrating when I don't have the time because I know the end results...

I love following big tracks in the snow as well post season. It's awesome to see how a buck uses certain cover to travel. Found many great beds this way that turned into great buck sightings the next season. 8-)
