New PB largemouth today

Unread postby mheichelbech » Mon Jun 29, 2020 1:41 pm

Caught this estimated 8 pounder today. Didn’t actually weigh it but it measured 24.75 inches. Caught at 1 pm on a 4 inch zoom ring worm.

Amazingly caught him at 1 pm in about 2 feet of water.

Just saw this. I released the fish but will get a replica mount. I didn’t want the place to lose any big fish genetics. I’ve got a few other bass mounts. I don’t know why but catching a fish like that in a pond seems somewhat like high fence hunting. It was special for sure but it would have been a lot bigger deal had it been on a large lake during a tournament or something like that.

I thought I had a big catfish until she jumped. When I first felt her I knew it was a big fish but I didn’t know it was that big. I’ve talked to a couple guys that said it probably is in the 9 pound class. Not knowing for sure but am positive it’s over 8 so I’m sticking with that.

When I was in high school and college that is mostly what I fished was farm ponds. Never once felt it wasn't real fishing. My biggest was a 26 incher that had no belly, I guessed it at 7.5. Never have topped it. Would love some day to top it with one of these great lakes smallmouths. If I ever hit a 6 lb smallie, its going on the wall.
