Illegal stands

Unread postby Boogieman1 » Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:52 am

In my parts it’s illegal to leave a stand hanging on public ground. While this has never really screwed my hunting. When I find a permanent stand it has always ticked me off. Typically the same type of outdoorsman who leaves trash all in the surrounding area.Being that many seasons have come and gone in my life I’m just not gonna let it bother me anymore. That’s right! I’m turning over a new leaf. Starting this season I’m no longer gonna complain about these folks. Instead I’m gonna hang a cheap stand directly on top of theirs and see how they like it. I’m talking about not even giving them enough room to sit down. Using a chain, turnbuckle, and padlock! Kill em with kindness….

I once saw two ladder stands on the same palm tree in a palmetto field. I figured the guy did it for morning/afternoon shade but now I wonder if we got a boogieman running around down here.

I saw a guy do that once - literally hung it so the guy would hit his stand with his head when he stood up!

I hate it to. I mark them on my GPS. Started putting branches in them to see if they are used

I don’t see how putting branches is any less work than sandwiching them with a cheap tree stand. I realize that there is tons of good hearted, oh well, shucks type hunters here. As bad as it sounds… that ain’t me. I’m the type hard head who will torch his own house just to burn down the neighbors.

Yeah, those people burn my britches too.
Poachers is the correct term.

I don’t know if poacher is the correct term. More like lazy, rules don’t apply to me. Doesn’t mean that they are killing deer illegally.
I despise seeing stands in the woods. But I also despise trash in public parking, gutting gloves left in the woods and flagging ribbon everywhere.
You can’t police everyone and it will be more of a headache to try.
I just attempt to ignore it and do my thing

Easy on the idiots comment. I hung a preset on public once in a spot I thought I could not do a hang and hunt because of noise setting up stand. So I went and bought a $30 lock on. Didn’t end up hunting the spot that year and completely forgot about the stand. 2 years later went in before dark and set up, right after daylight I could see a stand and was pissed. Thought who the would do that but as it got lighter and my memory kicked in I realized that I was that idiot. First and last time I ever left a stand up longer than overnight.
