Opening Weekend Plans
I have a few states I'm hunting this year but unless the wind is off I'll be in Minnesota deep in a marsh hunting over a bed I scouted this past spring. I am very excited about this area.
I generally don't find much for sign or rubs but this year was different. There were a number of areas torn up by this buck. After a lot of work checking potential bedding areas I have a few options that I am ready to hit.
Most of these spots setup for S winds which is what we normally have in early season. However one spot is a backwards J shape and based on the buck bed and trails I think I'll need a western wind for him to come past. It will be just off enough that he should come N past me. Any N in the wind and I could blow it.
I'm really looking forward to bringing this pursuit to the beasts here. I'm thinking of shooting a video series for this one so that anyone interested can follow along.
Here are a few shots from earlier this spring scouting.
Rubs on an island not too far from beds.
Rubs right in the bedding.
Standing in a well used buck bed.

Re: Opening Weekend Plans
Looking good James. Nice high rubs. An opening weekend kill would be awesome. Then you can focus on WI and Iowa.

Tough to beat marsh country during the early season. I like your plan.
