Marsh hunting
Went scouting on state land here in Southeast Michigan and found some nice spots I wanted to check out on the map before hand. When I got there I noticed these nice spots were locked in by cattails that we're taller then me and super thick. Once back the spot looked promising with a lot of runs and some beds. The struggle will be getting through these cattails without spooking everything bedded down and not leaving a beat down path for other hunters to use. Plan was to just hunt it on windy days but wanted to see if anyone had a good idea for sneaking back there and not sounding like a elephant

Re: Marsh hunting
I feel like dan does a good job of covering this in his marsh video. I think he might have a youtube video or two that covers this topic also. Basically go slow and play the wind. Deer in marsh are less concerned with sound as long as you don't sound like a human stomping through at a "regular" pace. Play the wind and don't worry about making a little noise. Try to sound like another deer going through the marsh and you should be fine.

Re: Marsh hunting
There aren't really any secrets that I know of. Slow and steady (more like super slow and stop for a while) wins the race...
Green cattails are 10x easier to sneak through than dead and dry.

Re: Marsh hunting
I have no cattails to hunt in or around close by to hunt, but i have heard dan say sevral times on marsh videos and read on the forum that sound doesnt travel like you think in the cattails. The trouble is closing in on the beds reguard less what type of cover you in. The last 200 to 300 yards, like said above, slow down take your time and watctch your steps should get you close to bedding!

Sorry for the late response but thank you guys for the help. I really do appreciate it. I'm getting excited to give this Marsh hunting a go this year. Going to be a great challenge with the pressure and I'm positive it'll help me grow my knowledge and skills as a bow hunter

Re: Marsh hunting
You'd be surprised how much noise is muffled by the cat tails, I remember one video dan said you could be walking down the trail and then Bam!. You run into someone. It's really hard for that sound to disperse out if there is a sea of cat tails. I'd Access in on deer trails and make sure to duck walk that way hunters can't see a man made trail and you only plan to hunt it a 1-2 times so scent is less of a problem than going in on the right wind. I'm still a newbie myself but those are some points I remember. Good luck!

Re: Marsh hunting
Take your time, and get in early when birds are chirping and it's louder in the swamp. Also word of advice...stopping around in swamps in central michigan, might lead you right to an assassin.

Should be easy to spot the Michigan plates. Don't see them around here much unless I'm up north and run into Yoopers.
